december favourites 2017

I haven’t posted on here in what feels like so long. I guess I’ve just been busy leading up to christmas, and I’ve also just had some stuff going on in my personal life, so I haven’t even really thought about my little blog. Before the year ended though, I wanted to put together my december favourites.

I only have a couple of things I wanted to write about; a few beauty bits, and one piece of clothing. All three of the makeup items I’m including were part of my sephora black friday order, so I’ve had them for around a month and I’ve used at LEAST one of these every day since they arrived.

I guess I’ll start with my base first, which has been it cosmetics your skin but better cc+ colour correcting full coverage cream. A stupidly long name, but it’s also a stupidly good cc cream. I’m not really someone that’s into cc or bb creams usually, but I’d heard that this one actually had some coverage to it so I thought I’d give it a shot. This stuff is amazing. I’m definitely converted to it. The coverage is insane for a cc cream, I’d say it’s a medium coverage, and it just wears beautifully on the skin. I was especially impressed with how well it wears on my combination, sometimes kinda oily, skin.

Two other things I got in sephoras black friday sale were from Fenty Beauty, one of them being the absolutely insane killawatt freestyle highlighter duo in lightning dust/ fire crystal. For the longest time I’ve spoken about the elf baked highlighter and how it’s my favourite, but that has 100% been replaced by this one. Both of the highlights in this duo are absolutely gorgeous, lightning dust is more on the natural side but still packs a punch. The texture of these is so lovely, it seems to just melt into the skin instead of looking as though it’s just sitting on top, which is something that I really hate about certain highlighters. If anyone reading this is looking to get a  new highlight or want to pick up something from Fenty, then this is the one.

My other favourite from Fenty is the gloss bomb in fenty glow. I’ve been super into glossy lips for the last couple of months, and this is one of my favourites that I’ve tried so far. The colour is so perfect, it’s supposedly a universal nude that will look good on everyone, which I can definitely see being true. On the whole, it’s just a really good gloss, and I’ve been wearing it pretty much every single day since I got it. I’ve also received heaps of compliments from people when I’ve been wearing it, which is always a good sign.

I’m one of those people who really doesn’t care for their hair very well, but I’ve been using the scott cornwall colour restore anti-yellow toner for the past few months and it has made my hair feel so soft and I feel like it’s been looking pretty good too. I don’t know much about hair, and honestly, it’s not something I take a lot of care with, but I’ve been using this as a conditioner about every other time I wash my hair, and more than anything else it just makes my hair feel so lovely.

The last favourite that I wanted to talk about this month is a dress that I got from temt, which is somewhere that I never shop, and somewhere that really never has anything that I really like, except for this dress. Everything in there is super cheap, so this dress only set me back $20. The quality of it isn’t great, but it’s not an awful dress either. It doesn’t feel as if it cost me more than $20, but I think it looks as though it cost more.

I’ve been really into the whole cute little tea dress look, and this is one of my favourites. It’s just one of those super easy dresses to just throw on during summer, that look super cute and go with pretty much whatever you want.

what i wore this week: 4th-10th december 2017

I haven’t posted a what I wore this week in a hot minute, so I thought I should get back into it this week. I’ve just been super slack, lazy, and honestly a bit uninspired lately. Looking back this post could also be called one pair of jeans 3 ways because essentially that’s all I ended up wearing this weekend.

My friend gave me these jeans, they’re vintage and perfect. They’re super unflattering and big, but I love them. The denim is super worn-in, which means they’re insanely comfortable, and they don’t feel as hot and heavy as other jeans can in warm weather. I took a nap on saturday wearing them, which I think might just give an idea of just how comfy they are.

I bought this cardigan recently, which is a bit out of place because it’s summer now, but I’m going to Ireland in january and I realised I needed more winter clothes to layer myself up with. While we’ve had days when it’s slightly chillier though, I’ve really liked chucking this on. I especially love wearing it like I have here, with all the buttons done up and nothing on underneath. I think it can just make a cardigan; which is really a very unsexy piece, a little bit sexy.

Of course my checkered vans had to make another appearance. Most definitely one of my favourite pairs of shoes. This outfit had comfort as a number one priority, so these shoes just had to go with it. As well as being just so comfy, I absolutely love how they look.

This next outfit I was going to wear to a party, but then decided against because I was getting a bit cold and felt a bit dressed up for the type of party I was heading to. I ended up just wearing what I’d had on earlier (previous outfit), but I thought I’d still chuck this one in because I still do really like it.

Same jeans, but I just put on a nicer shirt and some converse. I love this top, I’ve had it for years and sometimes I forget about it but I’ll never get rid of it because I know I’ll always love wearing it. I got it at salvos for $5 or something, but it’s made by Country Road. When I first got it I would always wear a black singlet underneath it, but now I’m older and a bit more confident, I just chuck a black bra on under and I’m good to go. I just love all the detail and texture on this top, and how it’s definitely a bit see-through, but that’s not it’s main attraction.

Black hi-top converse just go with anything in my eyes. So, if I’m ever wearing an outfit like this and want to keep it casual, and also not distract from the top I’ve got on, I’ll throw on my converse. I feel like they’re just that classic trainer that you’ll have in your wardrobe which will never really go out of style. I personally can’t think of a time when I didn’t like converses. Anyway, this party I was planning on wearing this too was a very very casual type event, so converses were the perfect choice to tone down a top like the one I had on.

Once more in the last outfit I wore, are the same jeans. I feel like I should just quickly say that you should wash your denim the least amount possible. Never wash your denim after one wear (unless you’ve spilt something on them or got them dirty or whatever), or it’ll wear out so much faster.

Anyway, the friend who gave me these jeans also gave me this top. It’s a size or two bigger than I would usually buy, but I kind of love how it looks that way. I really like how this orange shade looks next to this wash of denim, I think they compliment each other really well.

Rip off gucci loafers from Decjuba again, these are just my fail-safe shoes if I just need to slide something on and go.  They’re not really good quality, but I think that’s expected considering the price, mine are starting to look pretty scuffed up on the toes.  After owning these and seeing how often I wear them it’s only making me want a real pair of gucci loafers that much more.

I tied this silk scarf onto my Rebecca Minkoff bag a week or so ago, and I think it looks really cute. The colours on this scarf are so gorgeous, it’s just like greens, reds and oranges, and they all look so good together. I think it works with my style because even though adding a scarf like this to a bag makes it pretty girly, this bag itself is really not super dainty or feminine. So I think the juxtaposition of the two put together looks really cool.

november favourites 2017

I haven’t posted for a little while, but I’m back again now with my favourite things from november. Obviously, my number one fav from this month was andy and I’s little New Zealand trip, but I’ll share more of that once my film gets developed. But for now, I’ll start off with the best beauty goodies from the past month.

I’ve been trying to get my hands on the Nars Soft Matte Complete Concealer for the longest time, but they’ve always been sold out in my shade (the lightest one). I finally snatched one up though at the end of october and I’ve used it every single day since then. I completely understand the hype around this concealer; it’s got really good coverage, blends into the skin beautifully, and has a wonderful finish that is just really smooth looking.

I am super pale, and sometimes I can have a hard time finding concealers that are actually light enough for my skin. I’ve got the shade Chantilly and it’s perfect for me. I use a little elf flat shadow packer brush to apply it from the little jar (my fingernails are too long and it’s just a hot mess if I don’t use a brush), and then blend it out with my beauty sponge. I hope I’m not speaking too soon but I think I’ve found my holy grail concealer.

The other makeup product I’ve been reaching for non-stop is the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush in Mood Exposure. This is one of my all-time favourite makeup bits. Hourglass powders as a general rule are all gorgeous, but this blush is my number one of all of them. It’s such a beautiful, natural mauve shade. Like all their powders, it’s so finely milled that it just blends and sits on the skin so nicely, and never looks cakey in the slightest. If I could only keep one of my blushes for some reason, this would be the one.

Lately, my skin hasn’t felt or looked it’s best, so I thought I’d try a couple of new bits from La Roche Posay and see if they’d help. I thought La Roche Posay would be a really good brand to try when my skin was acting up because their products seem very straightforward, get the job done sort of products.

This month the two products that I think have actually made a difference in my skin are both from the Effaclar range and are; the Purifying Foaming Gel and the Unclogging Purifying Sebo-Controlling Mask. They’re both made for oily sensitive skin, so they’re really gentle but still work very well on my skin. I’ve been using the face wash pretty much daily after I’ve taken off my makeup, and then the mask I’ve been using about 2-3 times a week.

Lastly, before I get on to my two fashion favourites, I want to talk about the Jo Malone fragrance that I spoke about in my what I bought in New Zealand post. This cost me a fortune. I’ve never spent close to this much on a perfume before, but honestly, in my eyes, this is worth every cent. It’s the Jo Malone Oud & Bergamot Cologne Intense and it is gorgeous. I’m shit at describing scents but I feel like it’s deep and kind of masculine, but also sexy at the same time. It also lasts amazingly on the skin, which is absolutely what you want when you’ve spent a crazy amount on your perfume.

My first fashion favourite this month is a pair of swimmers I bought closer to the start of the month and took over to NZ with me. They are the most amazingly me swimmers I’ve ever seen or owned. They’re an electric blue velvet one piece with a super low back. I saw them months ago but held back from buying them because it was still way to cold to think about going swimming, but I finally got them and I’m so glad I did.

Velvet is my thing. I love velvet so much and I own so many different pieces of clothing made from velvet, so of course when I saw swimmers I had to buy them. I’m not really a bikini kind of girl, I love one pieces so much more, especially when the back is super low. I think they’re so understatedly sexy, and I always feel much more confident in pieces like this than in a bikini. I’m obsessed.

And lucky last is the bag that I’ve used more than any other one this month. This bag is from Decjuba, but it is obviously a massive rip off of the Loewe puzzle bag, which I would love to own but I’m 19 and work in retail so it’s definitely out of my price range for handbags at this point in time. Anyhow, I used this bag as my carry on, and it was the only bag I took overseas with me. It fits quite a bit more than you would think in it too. I carried my SLR camera, a book, wallet, passport, disposable cameras, plus all my random beauty products and I was impressed that it hold all of that.

It’s just a safe bet too, I feel like it’s one of those bags that you can put with any outfit and it’ll look great but also hold all the goodies you need. It’s starting to wear out a bit, but considering it’s a $70 bag and I use it majority of days out of the week, I’m really not too fussed.
