Recently, more than ever I’ve been preferring to opt for much more simple outfits, and focusing on finding what the prime pieces in my wardrobe are. These pieces are becoming more and more apparent to me lately. When I look back at how my style has changed over the past year or so, it really seems to me like a gradual evolution into a more mature (loosely used term) version of my personal style.
For me I don’t know if there’s a bigger staple in my wardrobe than a good pair of jeans. This pair in particular are the pair I’ve been reaching for the most lately – vintage Levis 501’s I got from Landspeed, and I’m in love with them. They are a bit big on me since I lost a bit of weight, but once I put a belt on I’m not too bothered by that at all. The length is I think one of the biggest reasons I keep reaching for them. It is so difficult for me to find a pair of jeans long enough for me, so finding these was like a miracle (dramatic I know, but that’s really how it feels). The wash of the denim is also just so good, it’s one of those perfect kind of mid washes that just seems to go with almost everything.
I think most people will have a style of top that is their go to, that they feel comfortable and good in no matter what they pair it with. At this point for me that would have to be this style of little white singlets. I’m not quite sure what it is about this super basic kind of top, but I’m just obsessed with the way they look. This one is my current favourite, but I have a few different variations of white singlets in my wardrobe because I’ve just been wearing them non stop.
And of course, I’m not sure I could ever talk about the key pieces in my wardrobe without mentioning my Docs. Lately I’ve been wearing these ones a lot more than my high top pair, but I love them both so much and I could not recommend any shoe higher than Doc Martens. 100% worth every cent I spent on them.
Anyway, I think it’s become important to me than ever before to find what the basics in my wardrobe are – and nail them.
