what’s in my bag

One of my all time favourite kind of youtube videos to watch is a classic whats in my bag. I know reading a blog post about the same thing probably won’t have nearly the same effect, and I can’t ramble on about everything anywhere near as much as I would if I made youtube videos, but I wanted to share some of my favourite things that I pretty much always have on me.

I’m a small bag kinda girl, mostly because I know from experience if I have a big bag then I will just fill it because I have the room to. I don’t really like to keep a lot of things on me, so I just stick to my couple of essentials, and everything that I have in my bag as of right now I love for one reason or another and I pretty much just wanted an excuse to talk about them. Side note: I usually have my apple earphones in here as well and I’m not sure where they were on this day, but just pretend they’re there.

Firstly, the bag I’m using at the moment is from H&M. It’s pretty decent considering it only cost me $25, I’m a massive sucker for a mock croc effect, and I was looking for just a simple little black bag so this was perfect. But now, onto the contents and my cardholder. I’ve been progressively downsizing my wallet for a while now, for the same reason I use a small bag, when I use a big one I fill it with shit I absolutely don’t need. My cardholder is from Fendi, and it’s my love. Me and my boyfriend went almost halves (he paid more than me) in this for my 20th birthday present, and I can never see myself getting rid of it. It has 7 slots, it’s grey and yellow, it has the cute little Fendi monster eyes, and I’m just obsessed with it.

I’ve always got a few lip products in my bag, and at the moment I’m carrying one of my favourite lip balms, lanolips in the peach flavour, and of course probably my favourite lip gloss ever, from Fenty.

THE greatest hand cream and one that actually makes a difference to the softness of your hands, is the Hand Chemistry cream from the Chemistry Brand. I recommend this to everyone and anyone, and I’ve gone through a few tubes of it now.

I have two pairs of sunnies that I love the most, and at the moment these are the ones I’ve been carrying around the most recently and

Other than my keys, the last thing I have on me almost all the time (except when I’m getting one developed) is a disposable camera. If you’ve seen any of my disposable diaries on here you’ll know I take a lot of photos on these, and I just love having one on me.

shades of pink

I haven’t been a pink girl in many, many years, but lately I’ve really been getting into it. When the whole ‘millennial’ pink trend popped up, I liked it, but I really wasn’t a huge fan like so so many people were. When I started seeing a few bright pink knits though, I was surprised by how much I loved it. They didn’t really pop up in shops near me for a while but I found this one and snatched it up straight away.

I got this one from Cotton On, and honestly the quality is not great, it’s quite thin and a bit itchy especially around my neck, but I don’t mind that much. I bought another jumper at the same time from Cotton On which just feels so much nicer than this one, it’s a totally different style of jumper, but I’m pretty sure they were the same price, and if they had this colour in that style I definitely would’ve bought that over this one. But the colour is soooo nice. I actually think it’s surprisingly easy to wear, and even if you just tuck it into a pair of jeans, I think it looks really cool.

The jacket is brand new from Topshop. I don’t own any longer coats apart from this one because I feel like they make me look really grown up and formal, but I think because this one is such a fun pink, it makes it look a bit younger. I’m about 5’11, maybe taller I’m not 100% sure, and the length cuts just around my knees so on a lot of people I’m sure this would be quite a bit longer. I’m a massive sucker for anything checked, especially coats, so when I saw this I fell in love. I usually size up in jackets a couple of sizes but I only got a 10 in this, but even though it’s a bit more of a tight fit than I usually go for in my coats, I think it looks like it fits nicely.

It’s no surprise that I’ve got on my vintage Versace jeans and my Kmart boots again, I’ve just been putting these on with everything because it’s just a really safe bet and I’m yet to find something this combo wouldn’t look good with. The dark blue wash of the denim looks really good with the pink tones too. I love clashing pieces of the same colour but in different shades together, and I think because there are so many shades of pink throughout so many clothing options now it’s really easy to do, and it’s nice to brighten up sad and cold (almost) winter days with some bright clothes.

vinyl jackets & britney moments

I’ve finally got around to taking photos for a fashion post, so that’s what I’ve got for you today. It’s been a hot minute since my last outfit/fashion post, but I’m really excited about these pieces and I’m actually super into these two outfits I put together. Also, as a bit of a side note, I cut half of my hair off. I’ve had long hair for years and years, and I’ve been thinking about chopping it off for a while, but I was feeling impulsive last sunday and I just did it myself. I cut my own fringe last year, but I’d never cut the lengths of my hair before which had been my main reason for not doing it earlier, but I just got sick of waiting to get myself to a hairdressers. I’m honestly so happy I finally did it though, I think I needed a bit of a change, and I love it.

I’m also not too sure what’s been happening with my camera, I think it’s probably mostly just the fact it’s pretty old and worn out, but a lot of the photos I’ve been taking on it are turning out a bit strange. The photos in this post were taken at night, but the room was completely lit at the flash was on, so I’m not quite sure why they’ve come out so dimly lit, but I actually really like the cosy feel of them so I’m not too bothered.

Vinyl is really on trend right now, and I am obsessed with it. It’s been around for a little while, but it’s so accessible now and there are so many different options to choose from depending on what you’re after. Personally, I think my favourite way to wear vinyl, and in my opinion the easiest way, is with a jacket. In terms of clothing, I think jackets are really easy to experiment with if you’re wanting to try something new.

I found this jacket at TK Maxx, and it’s by a brand I’ve never heard of before. Usually when I find stuff I love at TK Maxx, it’s by brands that I have no clue at all about. I’m really not bothered by that though, because what I find there is so cheap. This jacket is a little bit of a statement for some people, but I think it’s so cute. I love the colour, and I think that it works really nicely with the vinyl. A coloured jacket or coat of some sort I think is a necessity in anyone’s closet, and red seems to be such an easy colour to put with pretty much anything. Here I just chucked it on over the top of an all black outfit. The knit top is cropped with a ring pull detail I’m obsessed with, and my pants have a pinstripe going through them, which adds a bit more depth.

This next jacket is my new favourite thing. I’ve only had it in my possession for about a week and I’ve already worn it everyday and had a bunch of compliments on it. I bought it because even though I own a lot of jackets, I felt like I didn’t have a super duper warm jacket that I could just throw on with anything and it would look good and keep me warm.

It’s from ASOS’s own brand, and I bought it on sale for $100. I’ve been after a jacket in this style for a while, but I felt like so many of them just looked exactly the same, and also that so many people were wearing them. This one really drew me in because it just looks different to majority of the other ones out there. Plus it is so warm, like incredibly warm. Unlike so many jackets I’ve seen in the past, the borg lining goes through the entire jacket, not just the parts which can be seen when it’s on.

The rest of this outfit is nothing new, the shirt I’ve mentioned in another blog post and I love putting a cropped knit under a massive jacket. The jeans are vintage versace that my sister found at salvos and then gave to me in exchange for some kfc. Shoes are the same as the last outfit, from Kmart, they’re by no means the best shoes but I really like the way they look, and I think they’re pretty good for the price I paid for them.

things that shouldn’t work

If you know me, you know that while I really do love fashion and pulling together pretty outfits, a lot of the time I just kind of throw things together and hope that I can pull it off. Sometimes I don’t even make much of an effort, I sort of just guess if something will look good and hope for the best. Occasionally I look back on these and I hate the outfit I’d put on, but other times I actually like my quickly put together looks.

The night I took these photos was one of those occasions where I actually like my outfit, even though it’s something that really shouldn’t work together at all. Everything I’m wearing I love on their own, and I can easily say that I would never usually think to put them together if I was properly planning an outfit.

My house has been getting renovated over the past few months, and lately I’ve been staying with my boyfriend, so obviously I don’t have my entire wardrobe full of options like I usually would. I’m definitely a lot more limited than I like to be with my clothing, meaning I sometimes just have to make do, because I’m not about to go all the way to my place just to grab a different jacket or whatever, just to go do nothing really important.

This jacket makes me feel like Georgie in It, at the start of the movie when he wears a yellow raincoat just like this one, then proceeds to get his arm bitten off by the clown in the drain. I found it at TK Maxx, but its by French Connection. I think it’s so cute, the fact that it’s a perfect yellow makes me feel so happy. It’s lined nicely which is a plus, the only other raincoat I own is really just a shell, so you have to wear layers underneath, but this you can get away with none.

The Levi’s top is vintage, and the pants I bought from Mango while I was in Ireland. A green top and a pair of brown cords is not something I would usually ever think to put with each other, let alone with a yellow jacket added into the mix. Even though this outfit doesn’t really work technically, to me it still kinda does.

Btw I know the quality of these photos is horrific but I just couldn’t get my camera to work so they were all just taken on my phone.

the start of autumn

It’s been getting colder in Canberra over the last week or so, and I’ve been welcoming it with open arms. I feel like it’s always the way, when it’s been hot for a while I crave the cold weather, but I know after a while of this weather I’ll be just wanting the heat back. Autumn is probably my favourite season, you kind of get the best of both worlds for a little before it gets close to winter, so you can play around with clothing that isn’t so much practical as it is fun.

Cropped jackets and knit are absolutely not practical in the depths of winter, but while we’ve got these days of about 17 degrees I think they’re totally acceptable. I love how they look though, so I’m trying to make the most of them before I think my pasty stomach needs the layers to keep me nice and toasty warm.

This jacket looks a lot warmer than it actually is. It’s really not very good quality but it was dirt cheap. I bought it at Jay Jays, somewhere that I normally really hate the clothing from, but I honestly love this jacket. I’ve seen puffer jackets like this floating around, and I knew I wanted one but I didn’t want one with a hood which was proving a little hard to find. I’m not sure if this jacket is still available because I bought it from an outlet store, but it was on clearance for $15 so I snatched it up. As a little note, I sized up to a size 14 (I usually wear an 8), and it does look big on me, but I usually do like my jackets oversized.

I got this top off one of my friends, who was given it by another friend, and I love it. Also, like the jacket this is a couple of sizes bigger than what I usually wear, being a large, but I really like how it fits. I think this is pretty old, but tops in similar styles to this are all over the place. I love how cropped it is, but that at the same time it’s not skin tight.

The jeans are from ASOS’ own brand and I’m a big fan. They’re called the ASOS Farleigh High Waist Slim Mom Jeans. They’re really nice denim, with the tiniest stretch to them, but very nice feeling quality. They’ve also got a button fly, and they’re very flattering around the tummy and bum, and go into a slim/straight leg, which is by far my preferred style of denim.

Here’s to dressing a little less practically while we still can.
