why I love second hand shopping

I’ve always loved shopping at salvos and vintage stores. I’ve spoken about it briefly in a blog post a while ago, but I thought I’d write something a little more in depth. Over the last couple of years it’s become a cool thing to shop at salvos, which I loved because people wouldn’t judge me like they had before for wearing peoples old clothes. I never understood why people would have a problem with that, all you have to do is wash what you bought before you wear it and there’s no problem.

Over the years I have acquired so so so many pieces of clothing from salvos, some of it I’ve kept a hold of and have worn to death, and other things I really just never wore and just ended up donating them again. If you know me you would probably have realised that I have an actual shopping problem. It’s something that seems really silly, but I’m trying hard to not spend so much money on clothes, which is part of the reason I love going to second hand shops if I’m in the mood to just browse around when I know I’m in the mood to go shopping but don’t need to spend money on anything.

All of the clothes in this post are from a second hand stores like salvos or vinnies, or are vintage pieces. I love having pieces of clothing that other people aren’t going to have, and there is no place better to shop for that than thrifting. A lot of things that I’ve bought I’ve kind of altered myself, I really don’t take a lot of care when I do this, but I don’t mind the look of a frayed hem here or there. When I’m shopping I always have this in mind, so if I see something that has some sort of detail I’m not super into but can have a quick fix, I’ll get it. If I’m buying from stores this is not the mindset I’ll have, because if I’m paying full price for a piece of clothing I want it to look and fit like a glove.

I love experimenting with clothing, but when you’re on a retail salary buying pricier clothes that you aren’t sure if you’ll get the cost per wear out of, isn’t really the smartest thing to be spending your money on.

some new things

Lately I feel like I’ve been shopping a bit more than usual, which is a little bit of a problem because I’ve been spending waaaay too much money on clothing especially. But I wanted to share a couple of things that I love while they’re still available for you guys to buy. I’ve been kind of stuck with my style lately and feeling so sick of so many of my clothes, so I did go a lil overboard but I do love the things I’ve bought so I wanted to share them in case any of you decide you like them and wanna pick them up too.

I got this top from Bardot, somewhere I don’t shop very often; Firstly, because a lot of the clothes they sell there just aren’t super appealing to me, and secondly because as a general rule I think the quality of a lot of their pieces really doesn’t correlate with the pretty high prices of them. This top however, I couldn’t leave the shop without. Anything with this high neck-zip up-ring pull detail is a massive yes for me right now, paired with the almost orseund iris-esque under bust detail, and on top of that the perfect forest green colour, this top was literally made for me. Yes, I do think this was overpriced for what it is, it does feel like a nice quality knit.

I also bought another piece from Bardot while I was there, which is kind of like a mock croc faux leather brown skirt, which I loooove. It wasn’t as expensive for what it is as the top was, I actually think it was really well priced. It’s kind of weird so I don’t think it’s going to be to everyone’s taste but I think it’s really cute and I’ll be able to pair it with a lot of really basic tops to spice things up a bit.

The jumper is from H&M, and I have to say, H&M’s winter pieces are honestly 100% better than their summer clothing. I have a couple of knitted jumpers from H&M and I think they are SO good for the price you pay. This jumper in particular is a little more expensive than some of the others they sell, but it has 19% mohair and 13% wool within it’s fibre content, which just makes it nicer quality than just a regular acrylic knit. The wool makes it a little scratchy around the neck but it makes it a really nice warm jumper so in all honesty I don’t mind too much.

My sister told me this outfit was “so fucking ugly” but oh I don’t even really care at this point.

Lastly for this post is a pair of pants from H&M, so really this is just a collection of a few things from Bardot and H&M I guess. Originally I wanted a different pair of checkered pants from H&M but they’re made very small so my normal size hardly fits me, and every time I’ve been in to look for them they didn’t have them in the size I need, but I did end up finding another pair which actually fit properly so I’m happy (although I’ll still be looking for my size in the ones I originally wanted). I’ve had a thing for checkered pants for quite a while now, and more and more places are starting to sell really cute ones which is amazing. Plus, these are just such a good fit, they really flatter you around the bum and then go into a slim leg, which is a kind of fit that I think always looks good.

what’s in my bag

One of my all time favourite kind of youtube videos to watch is a classic whats in my bag. I know reading a blog post about the same thing probably won’t have nearly the same effect, and I can’t ramble on about everything anywhere near as much as I would if I made youtube videos, but I wanted to share some of my favourite things that I pretty much always have on me.

I’m a small bag kinda girl, mostly because I know from experience if I have a big bag then I will just fill it because I have the room to. I don’t really like to keep a lot of things on me, so I just stick to my couple of essentials, and everything that I have in my bag as of right now I love for one reason or another and I pretty much just wanted an excuse to talk about them. Side note: I usually have my apple earphones in here as well and I’m not sure where they were on this day, but just pretend they’re there.

Firstly, the bag I’m using at the moment is from H&M. It’s pretty decent considering it only cost me $25, I’m a massive sucker for a mock croc effect, and I was looking for just a simple little black bag so this was perfect. But now, onto the contents and my cardholder. I’ve been progressively downsizing my wallet for a while now, for the same reason I use a small bag, when I use a big one I fill it with shit I absolutely don’t need. My cardholder is from Fendi, and it’s my love. Me and my boyfriend went almost halves (he paid more than me) in this for my 20th birthday present, and I can never see myself getting rid of it. It has 7 slots, it’s grey and yellow, it has the cute little Fendi monster eyes, and I’m just obsessed with it.

I’ve always got a few lip products in my bag, and at the moment I’m carrying one of my favourite lip balms, lanolips in the peach flavour, and of course probably my favourite lip gloss ever, from Fenty.

THE greatest hand cream and one that actually makes a difference to the softness of your hands, is the Hand Chemistry cream from the Chemistry Brand. I recommend this to everyone and anyone, and I’ve gone through a few tubes of it now.

I have two pairs of sunnies that I love the most, and at the moment these are the ones I’ve been carrying around the most recently and

Other than my keys, the last thing I have on me almost all the time (except when I’m getting one developed) is a disposable camera. If you’ve seen any of my disposable diaries on here you’ll know I take a lot of photos on these, and I just love having one on me.

shades of pink

I haven’t been a pink girl in many, many years, but lately I’ve really been getting into it. When the whole ‘millennial’ pink trend popped up, I liked it, but I really wasn’t a huge fan like so so many people were. When I started seeing a few bright pink knits though, I was surprised by how much I loved it. They didn’t really pop up in shops near me for a while but I found this one and snatched it up straight away.

I got this one from Cotton On, and honestly the quality is not great, it’s quite thin and a bit itchy especially around my neck, but I don’t mind that much. I bought another jumper at the same time from Cotton On which just feels so much nicer than this one, it’s a totally different style of jumper, but I’m pretty sure they were the same price, and if they had this colour in that style I definitely would’ve bought that over this one. But the colour is soooo nice. I actually think it’s surprisingly easy to wear, and even if you just tuck it into a pair of jeans, I think it looks really cool.

The jacket is brand new from Topshop. I don’t own any longer coats apart from this one because I feel like they make me look really grown up and formal, but I think because this one is such a fun pink, it makes it look a bit younger. I’m about 5’11, maybe taller I’m not 100% sure, and the length cuts just around my knees so on a lot of people I’m sure this would be quite a bit longer. I’m a massive sucker for anything checked, especially coats, so when I saw this I fell in love. I usually size up in jackets a couple of sizes but I only got a 10 in this, but even though it’s a bit more of a tight fit than I usually go for in my coats, I think it looks like it fits nicely.

It’s no surprise that I’ve got on my vintage Versace jeans and my Kmart boots again, I’ve just been putting these on with everything because it’s just a really safe bet and I’m yet to find something this combo wouldn’t look good with. The dark blue wash of the denim looks really good with the pink tones too. I love clashing pieces of the same colour but in different shades together, and I think because there are so many shades of pink throughout so many clothing options now it’s really easy to do, and it’s nice to brighten up sad and cold (almost) winter days with some bright clothes.

disposable diary 3

I just got back another lot of film from a disposable, so I wanted to put it all together into a third disposable diary. I’ve realised that the majority of the film photos I post are pretty much the same things week to week, but my life is pretty uneventful unfortunately, so it probably won’t get too much better than this. I’ve also realised that I probably have a slight drinking problem, because a bunch of these were taken while me and my friends were out. Anyway, I hope you all enjoy another collection of drunk photos, sunsets and a few pics of me.

A little side note too, I’m very interested in buying a proper film camera but I’m completely unsure what is a good option for a basic point and shoot. If I did get one and start shooting on that, I’d have to change the name of this little series, but until then I’m sticking with the disposable cameras. If anyone knows a good film camera though that isn’t too pricey, please let me know!!
