things that shouldn’t work

If you know me, you know that while I really do love fashion and pulling together pretty outfits, a lot of the time I just kind of throw things together and hope that I can pull it off. Sometimes I don’t even make much of an effort, I sort of just guess if something will look good and hope for the best. Occasionally I look back on these and I hate the outfit I’d put on, but other times I actually like my quickly put together looks.

The night I took these photos was one of those occasions where I actually like my outfit, even though it’s something that really shouldn’t work together at all. Everything I’m wearing I love on their own, and I can easily say that I would never usually think to put them together if I was properly planning an outfit.

My house has been getting renovated over the past few months, and lately I’ve been staying with my boyfriend, so obviously I don’t have my entire wardrobe full of options like I usually would. I’m definitely a lot more limited than I like to be with my clothing, meaning I sometimes just have to make do, because I’m not about to go all the way to my place just to grab a different jacket or whatever, just to go do nothing really important.

This jacket makes me feel like Georgie in It, at the start of the movie when he wears a yellow raincoat just like this one, then proceeds to get his arm bitten off by the clown in the drain. I found it at TK Maxx, but its by French Connection. I think it’s so cute, the fact that it’s a perfect yellow makes me feel so happy. It’s lined nicely which is a plus, the only other raincoat I own is really just a shell, so you have to wear layers underneath, but this you can get away with none.

The Levi’s top is vintage, and the pants I bought from Mango while I was in Ireland. A green top and a pair of brown cords is not something I would usually ever think to put with each other, let alone with a yellow jacket added into the mix. Even though this outfit doesn’t really work technically, to me it still kinda does.

Btw I know the quality of these photos is horrific but I just couldn’t get my camera to work so they were all just taken on my phone.

more salvos finds

About a month or two ago I made a post about some things I’d bought second hand from salvos and vinnies, and I thought today I’d write another one. Like I said in the other post, I’ve always loved vintage and second hand shopping, and lately I’ve been doing quite a lot of it so why not share?

I’ve been making an effort not to go too over the top with the length of my blog posts, and I’m actually really enjoying writing these shorter posts with only one of two outfits. So this is another little one, but I feel like I kind of prefer reading short posts lately, so it makes sense to me to create things that I would like to read.

An all black outfit is a little different for me, but I’m a fan of this one. The style of the top is one that’s a staple in my wardrobe. I think it’s so simple, but it just makes everything look effortlessly cool. I’ve seen these around all over the place so they’re not hard to find, but I love the black satin of this one.

I really love 90’s and early 2000’s style, with a little bit of an update, and I think the little spaghetti straps and tight fit with no bra kind of encapsulates that. Plus, pairing it with everything else in this outfit just makes it fit in even more with the look.

My sister actually found these pants and gave them to me, so I can’t take the credit for finding them. They’re mens work pants and I love them. They’re so unflattering, but I really don’t care. I’ve been after some cargo type pants similar to these for a little bit, but they’ve been surprisingly hard to find.

The belt is also from salvos, and it seriously screams early 2000’s style. I really like these belts, I wasn’t really looking to buy one though, but I saw this one for $4 so of course I bought it. I’m super into how this one is a brown leather instead of black, which is what a vast majority of them seem to be. I’m a big fan of belts, I love how they can just make a basic top and pants look that little bit more put together.

shades of cream

I’ve always seemed to steer away from wearing white, and while I absolutely can not see myself rocking a pair of white skinny jeans any time soon, I love off white and cream shades.

While wearing these almost white colours still is a little scary, and I’m always a lot more cautious than usual so as not to spill things all over myself and stain my clothes, sometimes I risk it if I’m really feeling the outfit, and in these photos I definitely was.

I don’t always like the way that cream pairs with other colours, I like the way it looks with denim, but more than anything I love how it looks when it’s blocked with other shades of cream.

My top is my favourite part of the outfit. I bought it online last year (I think) from Urban Outfitters, and it’s the easiest top to wear. I bought it in a size up so that it would be a little oversized, and I’m glad I did because I love how it fits. I can throw it on with almost anything and it looks good.

The pants I got at TK Maxx and while they’re pretty cute, they’re not very good quality at all. I don’t wear them a whole lot because they are very see through, so you’ve gotta wear the right undies otherwise they’ll definitely be seen. Like I said, I really haven’t worn them all that much and while I was taking these photos today the little popper button broke, which is super disappointing.

I made my friend lend me her cap because the colour matched my outfit so well I just couldn’t not have it in my photos. I love caps like this one in general though and I feel like they’re one of the only hats that kind of suits my head.

My new favourite sunnies, and slides just finishing everything off.

little things I love

Recently I’ve been loving leopard print, and especially pairing little hints of it with this spotted dress. I didn’t know where I’d put this dress for a while, but I finally found it among my stupid amount of clothes and now I’ve been wearing it non stop. It’s been one of my very favourites over the summer. The cut and fit of it are simple, but one that I find really flattering.

I bought it a couple of months ago from Temt. I spoke about this dress a while ago in a favourites post I think it was, and in that post I said that I never buy clothing from Temt, and I still don’t. After I found this dress there I kept returning to try and find more things I love as much, but I never have.

I feel like leopard print is such a classic print, but at the same time can be done so wrong. I do love when things are a little tacky, but I also don’t like it to be too much. I bought my phone case and scrunchie from Princess Polly, they were not expensive at all and they just add a little bit of the ugliness I seem to love so much.

It’s probably kind of obvious already that I love clashing patterns, and I think this combination of spots and leopard may be one of my new favourites. I think because all the tones in this outfit are neutrals, it makes it very unoffensive and much easier to feel like an easy combo to pull off.

I’m getting a bit bored of summer dressing and the hot weather just seems to keep dragging on and on, so for the most part I’ve just been wearing really boring outfits like this one. But even though it’s a boring outfit, I think it relies pretty heavily on the dress being a flattering cut for me, and also the cute (tacky) little accessories I put with it.

I know this is a very short post, but I realised not everyone wants to read essay length posts about why I love clothes so much, and I’m going to try and write my posts shorter and maybe more frequently. Plus, there’s really not much else I can say about this dress and some leopard print goodies.

december favourites 2017

I haven’t posted on here in what feels like so long. I guess I’ve just been busy leading up to christmas, and I’ve also just had some stuff going on in my personal life, so I haven’t even really thought about my little blog. Before the year ended though, I wanted to put together my december favourites.

I only have a couple of things I wanted to write about; a few beauty bits, and one piece of clothing. All three of the makeup items I’m including were part of my sephora black friday order, so I’ve had them for around a month and I’ve used at LEAST one of these every day since they arrived.

I guess I’ll start with my base first, which has been it cosmetics your skin but better cc+ colour correcting full coverage cream. A stupidly long name, but it’s also a stupidly good cc cream. I’m not really someone that’s into cc or bb creams usually, but I’d heard that this one actually had some coverage to it so I thought I’d give it a shot. This stuff is amazing. I’m definitely converted to it. The coverage is insane for a cc cream, I’d say it’s a medium coverage, and it just wears beautifully on the skin. I was especially impressed with how well it wears on my combination, sometimes kinda oily, skin.

Two other things I got in sephoras black friday sale were from Fenty Beauty, one of them being the absolutely insane killawatt freestyle highlighter duo in lightning dust/ fire crystal. For the longest time I’ve spoken about the elf baked highlighter and how it’s my favourite, but that has 100% been replaced by this one. Both of the highlights in this duo are absolutely gorgeous, lightning dust is more on the natural side but still packs a punch. The texture of these is so lovely, it seems to just melt into the skin instead of looking as though it’s just sitting on top, which is something that I really hate about certain highlighters. If anyone reading this is looking to get a  new highlight or want to pick up something from Fenty, then this is the one.

My other favourite from Fenty is the gloss bomb in fenty glow. I’ve been super into glossy lips for the last couple of months, and this is one of my favourites that I’ve tried so far. The colour is so perfect, it’s supposedly a universal nude that will look good on everyone, which I can definitely see being true. On the whole, it’s just a really good gloss, and I’ve been wearing it pretty much every single day since I got it. I’ve also received heaps of compliments from people when I’ve been wearing it, which is always a good sign.

I’m one of those people who really doesn’t care for their hair very well, but I’ve been using the scott cornwall colour restore anti-yellow toner for the past few months and it has made my hair feel so soft and I feel like it’s been looking pretty good too. I don’t know much about hair, and honestly, it’s not something I take a lot of care with, but I’ve been using this as a conditioner about every other time I wash my hair, and more than anything else it just makes my hair feel so lovely.

The last favourite that I wanted to talk about this month is a dress that I got from temt, which is somewhere that I never shop, and somewhere that really never has anything that I really like, except for this dress. Everything in there is super cheap, so this dress only set me back $20. The quality of it isn’t great, but it’s not an awful dress either. It doesn’t feel as if it cost me more than $20, but I think it looks as though it cost more.

I’ve been really into the whole cute little tea dress look, and this is one of my favourites. It’s just one of those super easy dresses to just throw on during summer, that look super cute and go with pretty much whatever you want.
