feeling stuck

I’ve been feeling pretty stuck lately on what to write. Majority of my posts lately have just been outfit based, but the latest one I did after I turned 20 got some really lovely feedback, so thank you to everyone who read that and told me their thoughts. Since the feedback was so positive, I’ve really felt like writing some more personal posts, however, I’ve just been unsure of what to talk about.

I think that how I’ve been feeling is a good place to start, and I can already tell this post is gonna be a rambly one. It’s not so much that I’ve been feeling uninspired, I just haven’t been feeling very creative as of late. I get inspired by a lot of things, but sometimes it’s hard for me to motivate myself into turning my thoughts into creative endeavours. I’ve written a post before on how I try to inspire myself, so I don’t want to make this post into a repeat of that one.

What I think I’ve been lacking more than anything is motivation. I really do love blogging, for me it’s not so much about how many people read what I’m writing or anything like that, and more just the fact that I sometimes feel like I have a lot of thoughts and I just want to write about whatever they might be. I feel like it’s a type of therapy for me, but I also don’t want to share anything that’s too personal, so I feel like I’m stuck in this limbo where I’m trying to find a balance between writing little posts on fashion and style, which will always be something that is very important to me, and writing about what I’m thinking.

I know that I prefer reading things which have been thought about and are coming from the heart, than just a quick little description of an outfit, but I’m still trying to find my feet here and I’m figuring out what this blog is.

When I took these photos I had no plan on what kind of post I would write to accompany them. The outfit is something I just chucked on at the last minute, nothing that I’m crazy about or anything that I think warrants an entire blog post on it, so that seemed so unauthentic for me to do. I just felt like after writing my last blog post which was pretty different for me, an outfit post about an outfit I don’t even particularly like just seemed so stupid.

I definitely don’t think that I’ve made this blog into what I want it to be, and I know that I can be a lot more creative and do a lot better, but I have a full time job and sometimes I lack the motivation and resources, as well as of course the time to do everything I want with it. This whole post I’m sure is just a complete mess and ongoing ramble, and I can’t even force myself to go back through it to proofread. I want my blog to me authentic and to be genuinely me, and that’s what I wrote this post to really say. I’m hoping that better things are coming for my little space of internet and if you guys stick around to see it then I hope you like it.

tattoos I got & things I bought in new zealand

I just got back from my little trip to New Zealand yesterday, and I’m already sad to be back. It’s so beautiful over there, so I’m completely not ready to accept it’s over, or to get back into my daily routine and work. I have so many photos and I took two disposable cameras with me, so once they’ve been developed I really want to do a massive post including all of them. For now however, I thought I’d share just some of the things I spent my money on while I was there.

In all honesty I thought I’d bought so much stuff, but once I’d unpacked everything I realised the vast majority of what I bought were gifts for other people. I tried to be pretty practical with what I bought, and I was much more so than I first thought. But the most exciting things I got were two new tattoos.

Before I talk about the tattoos though, I wanna talk about the material things I bought. Firstly, these boots are everything. I’ve been after a pair of boots similar to this for ages, but while I’ve found ones I’ve liked, none have really caught me like these ones from Nude did.

These boots have so many details that I’ve wanted in a boot; the pointed toe, the pull tab, the elasticated sides. To top it all off they have the croc-effect on the back, and I always love a bit of croc-effect. They’re also real leather which is a bonus. The basic design elements are super reminiscent of the Acne Jensen boots I think.

Usually, when I’ve been looking at boots I definitely have swayed toward black styles, but I’m actually kind of glad these only came in tan leather. I think because of the colour they’ll be that pair of boots I’ll get to wear all year-round, whereas I feel like black boots can look and just make an outfit feel so heavy over the summer.

Dress: Re-made by Cream / Boots: Nude Footwear

The only other wearable thing I bought myself was this super sweet midi dress from Glassons. Honestly, when Andy asked if I wanted to have a look I really wasn’t convinced I’d see anything I liked but I was still curious so we went in. Really there wasn’t that much in there that interested me, the overall look the brand is going for just isn’t my style. But this dress got my attention straight away and I fell even more in love with it when I tried it on.

I’m really into wearing red at the moment (who isn’t), and I’ve been after a midi dress that looked slightly flattering on, so this really killed two birds with one stone for me.

The little slit up the front under the buttons is a detail I love, as well as the cut-out/tie-up front. I wouldn’t say this dress is sexy at all really, but I still think it’s flattering and shows enough skin to make it less grandma like.

Dress: Glassons / Shoes: Decjuba

I bought myself a few little things that I don’t really think would mesh with this kind of ‘haul’, but there’s one last thing I wanted to share. I finally took the plunge and spent a small fortune on a Jo Malone fragrance. I’m not really a huge perfume person, I’m pretty selective and I only own a couple. Jo Malone colognes are something I’ve lusted over for a while now but just had not been willing to part with that amount of money on a fragrance.

In the end, I splurged even more and got one from the cologne intense range. Although this range is almost double the price of the regular range of colognes, the scent I got is so amazing, I don’t regret the amount of money I spent on it. Oud & Bergamot is so sexy and deep, slightly masculine, and is probably my perfect fragrance.

The best thing I spent my money on though is absolutely my tattoos. Andy found Holy Skin Tattoo Wanaka on instagram and luckily for us they had time to fit us in while we were there. Nathan, who tattooed both of us, was so nice and such a great artist. If anyone reading this goes to Wanaka and wants to get inked, Holy Skin Tattoo has my stamp of approval. As for the pain, neither spot that I had done was that bad at all. Obviously they hurt a bit, it’s a needle going into your skin, but in the places I got them it was completely bearable.

The first tattoo he did on me was a snake on the back of my left arm just above my elbow. I’ve wanted a snake tattoo for ages now, and I’m so happy to have finally had it done. I showed him a picture of a snake tattoo I liked and he drew me up a design and I loved it, so that’s the one I got done.

The other one is a small quote that I really love. I get that quote tattoos are something people either like or don’t, and for me, I’m pretty selective about what ones I do like. Mine says “no rain no roses” in all capitals and a pretty blocky but simple font. This one’s also on my left arm, but on the front just below the inside of my elbow. I love both of my tattoos, I love the way the look with my other tattoos, and they both have special little meanings to me.

I think it goes without saying, but I am not a ‘proper’ blogger in any way, shape or form. So for me, I’ve been finding it hard to find inspiration on what I want to write about, without just turning this little blog of mine into a constant stream of favourites (which I will of course still write, but I don’t want that to become the only content that I’m posting). Especially considering the fact that I work full time throughout the week, I don’t get up to as many interesting things worth sharing as I wish, which can make thinking of things to share from my life much harder because I’m sure reading about an average week in my life would bore anyone who reads this to death.

Instead, I thought maybe I’d start off with sharing the few outfits I get to wear in a week when I’m not in my god-awful work uniform. I guess I wouldn’t completely rule out the idea of doing a weekly post on what I got up to as well as what I wore that week, but for now, while I’ve had nothing of note really going on in my average life I’m thinking I’ll just keep it nice and simple.

I don’t think I’ve shared this on here before but I work at Kmart (glamorous I know), so I am completely surrounded by all the goodies people post on those kmart style inspo instagrams all the time, and it can be pretty hard to resist buying a few things here and there when it’s all so stupidly cheap.

Anyway, the point of this is the other day we got in a new jumpsuit, and I bought it for myself straight away. It’s about 3/4 length on my very long legs, and it has the cutest little tie-up straps and a tie belt around the waist. Because of the neckline, I didn’t wear a bra with it (which if I can get away with not wearing a bra then I won’t). I guess the only thing I don’t like about it is the fact that when I need to go to the bathroom in this, I’m pretty much sitting there completely naked, but other than that for the price I paid for this, I’m a big fan.

Jumpsuit: Kmart

I’m writing this on Sunday, and yesterday I had two different outfits. The first was super casual obviously, considering all I really went out to do yesterday was grab a little snack for brunch and get my nails done.

I didn’t realise how shit the quality of iphone photos are in comparison the ones from my camera, so I apologise. Lately though I’ve had this vision of wearing cute slip dresses with sneakers, except I don’t have any trainer kind of shoes that are more ‘sneakery’ I guess than my vans, converse or stan smiths.

With this outfit, I decided to pair it with my stan smiths. I wore this dress and bag combo in a recent post, and I love it because you can chuck on almost any kind of shoe with it and you’ll look good. It was a little bit cold when I left the house so I just chucked on this light coat which has been perfect for the weather lately because it’s that sort of in-between of a coat and a cardigan (it’s also actually from kmart too).

I thought I’d chuck in a sneaky pic of my nails too because I’m in love with them. I get them done at Holy Nails & Spa in Dickson and they’re so good. They take so much care, so my nails always look amazing and my acrylics last so well too. If you’re in Canberra then I would highly recommend.

Jacket: Kmart – Dress: Things We Lost – Shoes: Adidas Stan Smiths – Bag: Rebecca Minkoff

Saturday night I had a dinner and drinks sort of thing to go to so I wanted to dress up just a lil bit, but not too much. Another thing I bought for myself this week was a super cute new dress from a brand called Beyond Her which they sell at Glue.

10

I think the brand is relatively new and so far I’ve seen some really cute things I’ve got my eyes on. The shoes I wore with this dress are pretty new to me as well, except with me being the complete mess I am, I didn’t get them in any of my photos.

I’m really into this style of dress lately, I think the fit is so flattering. I love the really straight neckline, and how the straps are positioned almost as close to the sides as possible, which makes me look a bit broader across my shoulders. I fits nice and tight around my bust and then cuts at the waist and is just slightly a-line, but in a way thats very subtle. Even though it is a short dress, it isn’t too short for me and my incredibly long legs which I appreciate.

Again I apologise for the shitty iphone quality.

Dress: Beyond Her

And finally my last outfit of the week, and after realising how awful the quality of iphone photos are I did force my sister into taking some pics on my camera for me instead, and I really like this outfit tbh.

I love this little button up top so much, it’s so cute and I love the creamy linen fabric it’s made with. It’s so easy to wear and looks so effortlessly good, especially with a button or two undone at the top.

These pants I also love but I hadn’t got much wear out of them since the weather’s been warmer. They have some orange and yellow running through the checks which I love, and I think because of that they don’t look so heavy and wintery and you can get away with wearing them into spring before it starts to get way too hot for pants. I personally think the fit is so flattering and they’re actually the perfect length for my legs (hardly anything ever is).

Again, I brought out my Rebecca Minkoff bag which I love very much, partly because it’s super sentimental to me because my boyfriend bought it for me as a 19th bday present, but also I just love how it looks. I’m not sure if they make this style anymore but I’m still into it, and it’s really small so it’s perfect for just going out to get coffee or any kind of weekend outing where you really don’t need much.

And my pink loafers make an appearance in this outfit too. I love loafers so much, I can’t see a point in time where I won’t love them.

Top: Things We Lost – Pants: Zara – Shoes: Hudson London – Bag: Rebecca Minkoff

This is the first post I’ve made in about 2 weeks. My laptop broke and I haven’t gotten around to getting it fixed yet, so if anyone is committed to this blog (doubtful of that) then I do apologize. Anyway, I thought I’d make a little rambly post and just talk about whatever really. As I’m starting to write, I’ll admit I have no direction what-so-ever with this post, so if this is super messy/all over the place then please excuse me (but I guess that’s a bit like my head anyway).

All I’ve really been doing lately is; working, rehearsing for Fashfest (show I’m modelling in soon), reading, spending money and eating honey almonds as well as some other delish food. Speaking of food, I went to Lazy Su in Braddon for dinner for the first time last weekend and it was honestly love at first sight. The food, the aesthetic and the whole atmosphere totally encapsulates everything I love. It’s super cool  mix of east asian/american fusion is evident in the food, and follows through into the decor and even drinks. If you’re in Canberra and in need of somewhere mouth-watering and delicious, as well as fun then this is for sure my top recommendation.

As well as my love for asian food, my love for asian authors has only grown stronger recently. Among a few other novels I’ve read in the last month or two (which I might do a post on, who knows?) I read two books written by asian authors, one being Men Without Women by Haruki Murakami (Japanese) and the other, The Vegetarian by Han Kang (Korean). These books are amazing. Both are pretty melancholy, but written beautifully none the less. I’d read one other Murakami novel before, so I knew that I was a fan of his writing, but I had never read anything by Han Kang so I wasn’t sure what to expect but this book intrigued me a lot. I’m absolutely hopeless at describing written works, but trust me when I say that these are more than worth the read. Warning though, if you read The Vegetarian be prepared because it’s quite disturbing, and also does contain sexual and physical violence.

014

Going on a bit of a tangent, at the moment I’m reading I Love Dick by Chris Kraus which gets me a few funny looks and questions when people see the cover, but it’s super interesting and different. It’s also pretty heavy with feminist themes, which is no problem at all to me. I’m pretty close to finishing it now, super intriguing book.

As for my spending, although I wish that I was much better at saving I don’t regret my recent purchases. I think I might follow this up with a post on some new things I’ve just acquired but LOVE, but I’ll give a quick shout out to my slides. Like I said earlier I’ve been rehearsing for a couple of shows I’ll be walking in soon, which has meant wearing heels quite a bit, and they’ve destroyed my feet. So whenever I’m not working or practicing, I’ll be in my slides.

P.S. I just got an ASOS order arrive today so the random pictures of me are just me being in love with what I got and wanting to show it off asap.

I’m sorry about this blog post, I’ll put more effort into something soon but I just felt like having a bit of a rant about random things.
